Short Interview
How did you end up in Gimboid?
The foundation was laid by our guitarist Mike and our original drummer Daniel, who got to know each other through a shared music teacher. I knew Daniel from school and was taking lessons from that same teacher. Through Mike, our singer Arndt and Tom joined via friendships. Our current drummer Alex finally came to us through the rehearsal room where we practise. That is how today’s line-up came together piece by piece.
What has been your live highlight so far?
There is no single overall highlight for me. What has stayed with me, though, is my first Wacken Open Air back in 2011. That really was a pretty special experience and definitely a moment I will not forget.
Which song means the most to you, and why?
I cannot really pin that down – there are simply too many songs that mean something to me. Depending on the situation and the phase of life you are in, different songs carry very different memories and feelings.
What are your three most important musical influences?
AC/DC, Metallica and Deep Purple. To me those are three of the most important bands – they are the reason I got into metal in the first place, and they shaped me musically. Even if I hardly listen to any of it these days.
What do you listen to when you’re not listening to metal?
Pretty much everything. Music from the 70s and 80s, but basically all over the place. I do not tie myself down to one genre – if I like a song, I listen to it, no matter which direction it comes from.
