Short Interview

How did you end up in Gimboid?

Mike and I have known each other since our school days and have kept making music together on and off since the late ’90s. After our last band, BAD SHAPE, broke up due to various people moving away, it was clear we wanted to start something new together. With Mike’s move to Zülpich and a rehearsal room on Bonner Straße, the foundation for GIMBOID was laid.

What has been your live highlight so far?

Definitely the show with BAD SHAPE at the 3rd Push Festival, an open-air festival in the Siegerland region near Kreuztal.

Which song means the most to you, and why?

There isn’t really one single song of ours that stands out for me. Every one of them holds musical ideas and lyrics that we worked out together over sometimes very long stretches of time, and they represent whatever was on our minds at that time.

What are your three most important musical influences?

As far as vocals go, it’s mainly: Maynard James Keenan, Mike Patton and Devin Townsend.

What do you listen to when you’re not listening to metal?

Jazz (e.g. Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck)
Progressive Rock (Pink Floyd, Zappa)
Punk, Wave
